Identifying Equipment Boundaries for Analysis
Identifying the equipment boundaries assures we do not miss
anything in analysis and troubleshooting. For example, for a
pump the boundary could be:
. Motor mounting or flange (excluding motor)
. Coupling
. Discharge flange
. Inlet suction flange
. Pump and its mount
A motor boundary could include:
. Electric motor and motor shaft excluding the coupling
. Power cables up to the load side of the controller
. Motor mounting and base
. Air filters
. Motor heaters
Here are some examples of protective-device functions and
failures:
F1.) Provide local and remote indications and alarms for
various system
parameters
FF 1.1) Incorrect local or remote indications or alarms for
various system
parameters
FF 1.2) No local indications or alarms for various system
parameters
F2.) Provide pressure relief for the steam generators
FF2.1) Inadvertent pressure relief
FF2.2) No pressure relief
