What are some sources of methane gas?
The activities of both termites and coal miners result in substantial inputs of methane gas into the atmosphere. Methane is expected to contribute up to 20 percent of any global warming that may occur. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the physical act of mining coal (without having burned it) may contribute up to 12 percent of the methane entering the atmosphere. The billions of termites nibbling their way through the planet’s wood also collectively contribute large quantities of methane. Livestock (more specifically, the gas emissions from livestock) are also prodigious producers of CH The methane resulting from human consumption of beans and cabbage has not yet been computed.
